Legendary Australian rock band AC/DC returned home on Nov. 12, playing a concert in Australia for the first time in more than a decade.

伝説のロックバンド、AC/DCが11月12日、なんと約10年ぶりに母国オーストラリアでライブを敢行！

Angus Young and Brian Johnson dazzled a crowd of more than 80,000 in the outdoor concert at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

会場はメルボルン・クリケット・グラウンド。屋外に集まった8万人超の観客を、アンガス・ヤングとブライアン・ジョンソンが圧巻のパフォーマンスでぶっ飛ばした。

It was the first time Australia’s most successful band with sales of more than 200 million albums played in its home country since December 2015. Its achievement ranks among the top 10 performing artists of all time.

2000万枚以上のアルバムセールスを誇るオージー史上最強バンドが、地元でステージに立つのは2015年12月以来。世界でもトップ10に入るレジェンドのひとつだ。

Critics raved over the show with incredibly energetic performances by 78-year-old Johnson on vocals and guitar god Young belying his septuagenarian status with a dynamic display.

78歳のジョンソンが信じられないほどパワフルなボーカルを響かせ、ギターの神様ヤングも年齢を完全に感じさせない動きで観客を魅了。評論家たちも「まさにエナジーの塊！」と絶賛している。

The band is due to play another concert in Melbourne on Sunday before heading around Australia and then off to South America.

バンドは日曜にもう一度メルボルン公演を行ったあと、オーストラリア各地、そして南米へとツアーを続行。

AC/DC formed in Sydney in 1973, but Melbourne has been the bad’s spiritual heartland and the choice for it to kick off the Australian leg of its Power Up Tour.

1973年シドニーで結成されたAC/DCだけど、心のふるさとはメルボルン。だからこそ今回の「パワー・アップ・ツアー」豪州編のスタート地に選ばれたわけだ。

The tour started in Europe in May 2024 and is scheduled to continue through to the end of September 2026 with a show in the United States.

このツアーは2024年5月にヨーロッパで始まり、なんと2026年9月のアメリカ公演まで続く予定。

AC/DC will not visit Japan in the tour, reinforcing its reputation as being Small in Japan, a contrast to the Big in Japan phenomenon of bands making a name for themselves in this country before getting a break in other markets.

残念ながら日本には来ない模様…。AC/DCは“ビッグ・イン・ジャパン”どころか、むしろ“スモール・イン・ジャパン”な存在を再び証明してしまったかも。

The world record for biggest bagpipe ensemble was broken in Melbourne, with 374 pipers playing in unison. The ensemble played AC/DC’s It’s a Long Way to the Top (If You Wanna Rock ‘n’ Roll)

AC/DC last toured Japan in March 2010 as part of the Black Ice World Tour.

    それってアリなの？アウトバック都市の巨大オブジェがアリである

    　今ブーム（それともバブルのか？）となっているオーストラリア鉱業の象徴的な都市と言えるブロークン・ヒルでは、ちょっとした特別な「Big Things」があり。そうなのよ、、、この都市の「Big Things」がアリなんだ！ 　ニュー・サウス・ウェールズ州にあるブロークン・ヒルのビッグ・アント（蟻）は他の「Big Things」に比べてちょっと違うところがある。オーストラリアの「Big Things」のほとんどがはっきり言ってキッチュだが、これが芸術的な作品であり、オブジェのアリである。ビッグ・アリがアウトバック芸術家である故プロ・ハート氏によって作られた作品だ。生存した時同氏はブロークン・ヒル在住だったので、数多くの作品を同市に寄付して亡くなって約6年間過ぎて今でもプロ・ハート関係美術館などが観光名所となっている。 大きな地図で見る

    今日は初めて「ワルツィング・マティルダの日」

    「ワルツィング・マチルダ」はオーストラリアの非公式な国歌というほど国内外で知られている歌だ（もしかして本当の国歌より有名かもしれない）。 　そして、オーストラリア、クィーンズランド州の田舎の町であるウィントンは4月6日をワルツィング・マチルダの日」に働きかけている。ＡＢＣによると初めて「ワルツィング・マチルダ」が公の場で演奏されたのがウィントンで1895年4月6日だったのだ。同運動支持者が全国の放送局を「ワルツィング・マチルダ」を放送するように呼びかけている。 　同曲は、テンポが良くても歌詞の内容がちょっと暗い。浮浪者が羊を盗み、警察及び農家にばれて捕まえられるより小さな池で自殺して以降幽霊が「ワルツィング・マチルダ」と続くという物語。そもそも「ワルツィング・マチルダ」の意味は、田舎で歩き回り出稼ぎする。 　歌詞には死語を含めて多くのオージー英語が使われている。例えば、jumbuckが羊のこと。そして、billabongが小さな池。Swagmanは浮浪者。それにtucker bagが食べ物を入れる袋を示す。

    　もはや、今年のクリスマスの日が後僅か数日間となった。 　日本を含めてほとんどの人のクリスマスに関する印象が北半球の真冬の行事だ。 　しかし、南半球を忘れないようにしようよ！ 　オーストラリアのクリスマスが真夏だ！ 　実は、ほとんどの場合、真夏でもクリスマスに関する飾りや行事が真冬っぽいの姿をオーストラリアでも現れる。 　だが、たとえトナカイの変わりにカンガルーがサンタのゾリをひっぱたり、サンタが半袖・短パン姿で描かれたりしてオージーっぽいのクリスマス・イメージもある。 　オーストラリアのクリスマス伝統一つがCarols by Candlelightと言います。これは、公園、海辺など屋外公の場で夕方になってろうそくをもってクリスマス・ソングを歌う習慣。とっても綺麗だ！そして、規模がさまざまだ。都市の中心部で数万人参加する物もあれば、近所たちごとで数人しかやらないこともある。おまけ、サマー・タイムで大体夜９時ごろまで明るく子供たちが夏休みなので、にぎやかな季節だ。 　今日の豪風クリスマス・ソングは、典型的なオーストラリア人歌手ジョン・ウィリアムソン作の「クリスマス・フォト」だ。家族揃ってクリスマスの昼食を食べた後にクリケットで遊んで記念写真を家族で撮ろうという話の歌だ。 　ちなみに、クリスマス・ランチを食べた後のクリケット遊びもオージー・クリスマス伝統一つとして言える。 CHRISTMAS PHOTO It’s December in Australia; Time to remember all the family.     A Breakout Performance Focusing on Australia’s Cowra
