A quaint way of saying goodbye. Sometimes, “toodleoo,” is used instead. Used mainly by older people, especially women.

グッドバイやバイバイのちょっと古い言い方。「さようなら」というより、「じゃね、後でね、またね」のような感覚で使う。時には、toddleooも使う場合があるが、いつ使うか決まりがないので、どちらでも使える。Hoorooは、未だによく使われているが、主に年配の方、特に女性、が中心となって使っている。

    　オージー英語はStrine（ストライン）とも言う。オーストラリア鉛の特徴の一つがしゃべる時に母音を極端に伸ばしてほかの表現を短くすることだ。つきましては、「オーストラリアン」をいう時に鉛に慣れていない人は、「ストライン」や「ストラヤン」に聞こえるらしい。そこで、パロディとして1960年代Afferbeck Lauder氏がストラインという言葉を造語し、今広く使われているようになった。（ちなみに、同氏の名前がalphabetical order < ＡＢＣ順＞のストラインらしい発音でかけているジョークネームである。）

    Japanese have been legally eating kangaroo for longer than most Australians. Kangaroo meat was imported to Japan and being served in Tokyo restaurants from 1988, five years before meat from the national symbol was legalized for consumption by Australians in all states other than South Australia, where kangaroo could be eaten legally from 1980.
