An icy pole is popsicle, iced candy or iced lolly, usually water-based, sweet and frozen. It is eaten on a stick. An ice block is the same thing, but also refers specifically to sweet drinks frozen in refrigerator ice containers.

Icy poleは、アイス・キャンディのこと。オーストラリアは、クッキーと一緒にアイス・キャンディの種類が豊富が、icy poleは甘い水っぽいものが棒に付けて凍らしたものを示す。Ice blockは、同じことですが、具体的に冷凍庫の氷入りに凍らした甘い液体が厳密なice blockだ。

    　なんだかんだ言ってもオーストラリアはギャンブル大国だ。一昔前まで競馬のメルボルンカップのために祭日があるぐらい。そして、オージー同士は壁に登って歩いている2匹のハエのどっちが先に屋根まで登れるかにまで賭けるぐらい賭け事に熱心と言われている。カジノも多くてくじも多様あるので、賭け事は国にとって重要な税収源となっている。そこで、scratchyというくじが出てきて、これは日本のスクラッチと全く同じであり、この種のくじの生まれ親でもある。
