でかいボウルズが元気な豪老人の原動力だ！

　日本では活発な高齢者の多くがゲートボールに熱心と同じようにオーストラリアのシニアたちの大部分がスポーツに励んでいるが、やっている競技が芝生上でやるボーリングであるローンボウルズ。
　かなり広いスペースが求められるローンボウルズは、狭い日本であまりなじみのないスポーツだけど、やっていることはやっている。
　しかし、広いオーストラリアではほとんどの町の中にはボウルズ・チームがあり白服姿の高齢者がぞくぞくと見える。多くの選手にとって「ボウルズ」が命だ！
　そして、そのローンボウルズの最も大きな例がオーストラリアのキッチュで有名な「Big Things」のひとつとしてニューサウスウェールズ州観光地ポート・マッコーリー近くにあるレーク・カッシーのBig Bowlだ！（ローンボウルズのボウルズは複数形であり、単数形になるにはボウルという。茶碗のボウルと違う。）
　1975年制作のBig Bowlは、高さ約１．８メートルであり、重さ約２トンで世界最大ボウルだ。レーク・カッシー・ボーリング・クラブ前に置かれている。

    Kangaroos are the choice of a company symbol for packaging-materials trading company Kawawa Co., Ltd. from Nagareyama, Chiba Prefecture. Kawawa chose to use a kangaroo to symbolize their operations because it represents “the spirit of wrapping,” according to the company’s website.
