Treading Through The Tulips

Much as I would love to have been tiptoeing, I’m way too fat to do that, so when Mrs. Kangaeroo and I headed off to the Hamura Tulip Festival, it was stomping heavily through the gorgeous flowers.

Mrs. Kangaeroo and I had done some cycling tours together in the past, but not since before the COVID-19 pandemic.

I’d been pushing all week to go as the return trip is largely flat and a distance I thought Mrs. Kangaeroo would be able to handle despite not having cycled for many years.

But the visit seemed unlikely yesterday as our dinosaur fell ill, and I woke this morning expecting to spend the day looking after her.

So I was surprised when Mrs. Kangaeroo got into her cycling kit and urged us to take off, which we did, getting on the Brompton and Birdy, respectively, and heading up the Tama River Cycling Road.

The festival was fantastic! A number of fields in the middle of the surburbs are transformed into a patchwork of colorful tulips.

It wasn’t grossly overcrowded despite the spectacularly wonderful weather, though we did run into a Brommie friend (who I ironically first met at the same festival several years ago!) Checking the monitor of the dinosaur cage revealed that she had broken free, so we were keen to get home.

Mrs. Kangaeroo was knackered, but she did a brilliant jonb plugging away on a half-century ride, then was gifted with the presence of the bloody bird, who was fortunately still alive if not yet recovered.
