    Moving Mountains

This weekend was probably the last until the very end of the year where I would be able to do a decent amount of cycling, and timing presented the opportunity to return to mountain riding for the first time in over three years. I got to ride through Takao first and see my physician for a regular check up. This allowed me to grab some time in Takao Komagino Teien, the gorgeous Japanese garden adjacent to my hospital. I enjoyed a leisurely ride over Otarumi Pass, a popular ride for many cyclists in Tokyo, and was pleasantly surprised that the…

    Awe-tumnal!

Glorious autumnal weather and a magnificent event lighting up the coloroful leaves made for an outstanding occasion at Showa Kinen Park. Mrs. Kangaeroo and I enjoyed a hot date on a cool day by spending the early evening at the park, travelling there and back on the scenic Tama Monorail. We were there for the Autumnal Evening Stroll, an event held to mark the changing color of the leaves as the winter approaches. I grumbled about being charged an additional fee to take part in the event at the park, which is nationally run and named in the memory of…

    Enjoying the Cycle of Life

Kangaeroo is not a young marsupial. He is old, fat and lazy. Exercise is not his thing. Yet, thanks to the humble bicycle, this exercise-averse old codger can enjoy a relatively healthy lifestyle. Every morning, almost without fail, Kangaeroo wakes, dresses, has a cup of joe and gets on his bike. For the most part, it’s not a long ride, but it’s a ride. Kangeroo has got a lot of cobwebs in his head and these rides usually help to clean them out. They’re back soon after the rides are finished, but even so, they would be much worse without…

Kangaeroo is on holiday. Has been for 37 hours now. And it has rained almost that entire time. And due to continue falling for almost the next 24 hours, too. Ah, well…not much that can be done about it. Related posts: Strine Dictionary Strine (オージー英語)Dictionary Beating Jobsworths with Luck What a Gift! Give Me, Give Me チョコレート! Autumn in Aoyama

Winter is coming to the Kanto Plain, but 2019 still has a final flourish of beauty before the bleakness. A stroll around the Aoyama/Omotesando areas produced some late-autumn gems. Autumn 2019 has been a mixed bag in terms of weather. Terrible typhoons wreaked havoc on many areas in the Kanto region, but there have also been many delightfully sunny days. Kogarashi ichigo is the term used to describe the first north wind exceeding 32 kmph in a season and is a general indicator for the onset of winter. Winds have picked up this week, but not enough to qualify as…
