Little Bit Chuffed!

Today I got a message from someone who really inspires me to be a better person, and it has thoroughly made my day.

That message has now gotten me away from writing in the third person because doing so makes me sound like an even bigger tosser than I am.

As I sit here with a warm, fuzzy feeling, it was also a nice reminder that I should tell people how they’ve made my life better.

Cold, bleak, dark and windy, with not much else nice about the day, I’ll brighten it up a bit more with a snot block, which as far as I know, is only obtainable in Japan at Punk Doily.

What reminded me of the snot block was the mouthwateringly delicious fumoto egg sand sangers at Takao Mountain House.

And I was inspired to think of that because of the message that came to me.

There’s so much more I could write. And I will one day.

Thank you. Even more inspiration.

  • Purple Haze All In My Brain, Lately Things Just Don’t Seem The Same

Nothing really remotely related to the lyrics, except the hardenbergia has bloomed beautifully and I am loving the dainty violet flowers popping up in the garden. And I am even happier because I grew the flowers from seed, which is an accomplishment I had never imagined possible (despite its mundaneness), and one that brings immense delight. Work is a little bit crazy at the moment, and I am also supposed to be studying, so I have little time on my hands. Added to that, the new fiscal year starts today and for the next 12 months I will be serving as the body corrporate:s architerctural director, which looks to be…

  • Costly Bloody Crash!

Kangaeroo’s accident this week continued to have reverberations. Although both Kangaeroo and the bloke he collided with rode away apparently unharmed from their predawn collision, costs have since mounted. The crash gave greater urgency to updating the chain and gear sprocket on La Cangura, which had been showing signs of wear for a while, and there was also a sneaking suspicion that the gear wire could probably do with replacing. That proved to be precisely the case with a visit to the Y’s Road bike store later in the day. The good news was the sprocket and cassette are still in good shape, so I got to get away just…

  • Bracing…

Unfortunately, the bracing in the title of today’s post refers to readying for what looks like a rough ride ahead instead of the alternative meaning of refreshing. My job search has proved disastrous, and it’s hard to keep trying to convince myself that I should be grateful for the position I do have even though my employer clearly wants me out and is harassing and haranguing me in every possible way to make my departure a voluntary rather than enforced one. It’s even worse to be surrounded by people who, though well-meaning and intending to encourage, are driving my feelings downward by constantly insisting that things will get better when…

  • Springing Into Life With Flower Power

It was an extraordinarily hectic day of being flat out from go to whoa, but also extremely productive and fulfilling as I was propelled by the thrill of the garden’s explosion of color through flowers. I started the day with a ride, dealt with some of the village’s board responsibilities (albeit lamely), wrote a blog post and attended an online meeting. Then work started. I was incredibly busy all day, punctuating time behind the keyboard by loading up my Brompton in a backpack and taking it for repairs to Y’s Road Fuchu Tamagawa; a roundtrip journey of about 13 km that needed to be made in about 40 minutes and…

  • It’s Not How Old You Are, But How You Are Old

I’m old, but like to think I do all right. However, it’s getting increasingly harder to kid myself. I can’t hear, can’t see, can’t chew properly because my teeth are going or gone, can’t remember anything and can’t learn new subjects no matter how hard I try as nothing sinks in. I wake up to pee several times a night (which is still better than not waking up to do so), barely sleep and feel constantly harangued and harassed by life. Arthritis in my hands is agonizing and makes nearly any task gargantuan, not to mention turns cycling, my sole saving grace in terms of physical activity, into an excruciatingly…
