A ladder in Strine is a flaw in pantyhose or stockings. The hole gets its name for its resemblance to the more conventional ladder, which of course is the item consisting of two posts joined by bars that act as steps to enable climbing.

「ストライン（オージー英語）で ladder は、パンティストッキングやタイツにできる「伝線」のことを指す。穴や裂け目の形が、いわゆる「はしご」ようするに、二本の柱に段が渡してある、登るための道具に似ていることから、こう呼ばれるようになった。

    オージー英語では、物事を調べてみたり、見てみたりするような事を、直訳すると「思っている疑問を検証しよう」という堅苦しい表現を使う。「大らかなオージーにちょっと似合わないだろう」と思う人が少なくないと思う。その通り。Check out my suspicions、要は「思っている疑問を検証しよう」から省略し、砕けた言い方に変わりsuss outという形になった訳だ。典型的なオージー英語である。

    豪キャブラリー： Chook

    　チキン（鶏）はオーストラリア特有の鳥ではないが、chookという呼び方は独特なオージー英語だ。ちなみにchookがオージー英語で生むのはgoogy eggだ。また、コミュニティグループなどでよく行なわれるくじ引きを「chook raffle」と呼ぶ。由来はおそらく通常1等の賞品が冷凍チキンだったからだろう。なぜだか分からないが、chookは人のニックネームとしてもよく使われている。
