    　ストライン（オージー英語）で greenie というのは、自然環境を守ったり再生したりすることに強い信念を持つ人のことを指します。オーストラリアは比較的保守的な国なので、この語はやや侮蔑的に使われることもあります。また、環境問題への考え方に関係なく、社会正義への強い関心を持つ人を指す場合もあります。Greenie は今では世界中の英語で使われていますが、もともとはオーストラリア発祥の言葉です。 A greenie in Strine is someone with a strong conviction for protecting or restoring the natural environment. It can be used somewhat derogatorily, especially as Australia is a fairly conservative country. Greenie can also be used to describe someone with a strong sense of social justice, regardless of their views on the environment. Greenie is now used globally in English, but the term originated in Australia.   • Layabout

    A layabout in Strine is someone who avoids work, except when striving hard to avoid doing anything useful. They work hard to avoid work. Layabouts are also referred to as idlers, good-for-nothings, and–most commonly–bludgers. 　ストライン（オーストラリア英語）で layabout は「働くのを避けてばかりいる怠け者」のことです。役に立つことをしないためには一生懸命になるくせに、仕事そのものは全力で避けるタイプ。日本語で言う「ぐうたら」「ろくでなし」「役立たず」、そして一番よく使われる呼び名が bludger（ブラッジャー）です。

  • Skiting

    ストライン（オージー英語）では、「Back of Bourke」が極めて人里離れた場所、あるいはそこへ向かうことを示す表現。 語源はオーストラリア内陸の奥地（Outback）にある町「Bourke]よりさらに奥地にあるところ。 Example: Mate, the pub was so far out the back of Bourke I thought we’d fallen off the bloody map. 例：そのパブはバック・オブ・バークよりさらに奥で、地図から落ちたのかと思ったよ。

    A westie, at least the version in Strine, is a bogan from the western suburbs of Sydney. A bogan, of course, is a person whose speech, mannerisms, appearance, clothing, behaviour, or attitudes are considered unrefined or unsophisticated. Bogans are often symbolized by a flannie and a mullet. 「Westy」とは、少なくともストライン（オーストラリア英語）における定義では、シドニー西部の郊外出身の「bogan」を指す。言うまでもなく、「bogan」とは、話し方、仕草、外見、服装、振る舞い、あるいは態度が、洗練されていない、あるいは野暮ったいと見なされる人のことだ。ボーガンは、しばしばフランネルシャツとマレットヘアで象徴される。 There are numerous types of bogans, including the snow bogans who swarm to Japan on bogan missiles. And New Zealand English, which is like an emerging version of Strine, also has westies, these being from the western suburbs of Auckland.
