Washout

Heavy rain put a dampener on any outside activity this morning, but it was a good chance for other activities, notably the family dinosaur throwing herself into a bath. She’s the clumsiest bather imaginable and watching her trying to bathe always fills my heart with warmth and hope that she’ll eventually get the practice down right one day. No luck so far, though.

Otherwise, it was a great day for the garden as the rain poured down in the morning and the sun is coming out now. It looks green, lush and healthy. How long it will remain like that is anyone’s guess.

For now, though, it’s off on a Death (Machine) ride. This ride will be my first with a new carry bag, the old one picked up over a decade ago for about 50 yen finally being put to pasture after the belt frayed beyond redemption.

Snag A Democracy Sausage Before The Nutjobs Strip Voting Rights

Aussie voters in Tokyo will be able to snag a democracy sausage if they go to the Australian Embassy in Tokyo from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Friday, May 2, according to the Embassy website. This be an opportunity to exercise a hard-fought right to vote (or avoid being fined for not doing so because votng is compulsory). And it also presents an extremely rare instance of being able to see consular officials helping Australians and earning some of the cost of the world’s most expensive passports, ensuring the documents are not a complete rort. Australia is one of the few countries that make voting mandatory, which I believe…

  • Wake-Up Call

For someone who usually wakes before 4 a.m. daily, the past couple of days have provided some pretty lousy wake-up calls. Professionally, there had been a job eating away at me over the Golden Week holidays and a check this morning revealed I had overdone it as I had suspected. Given a proper amount of time and no distractions, I could fix it up today. Still looking at a tough and demanding week ahead. Then, one of the great joys I’ve had this year has been watching the plants I’d grown from seed grow and start to flower. I was so proud of myself and it had provided me with…

  • Angels Without Wings

Blessed by sublime weather, I got to experience the delight of helping out a canicross–canine cross country–and spent the day being surrounded by literally hundreds of doggos, thse glorious little angels without wings. They were taking part in Dog Marathon 2025 Shonan Beach Canicross on Tsujido Beach in Fujisawa, Kanagawa Prefecture. There were four different races with owners running together with their pooches (at least in theory, as slogging it out on the beach is pretty touch work, even if you’ve got four legs, as would prove to be the case for many dogs). It was an absolute delight, though, and I had a magnificent day. Coming home wasn’t so…

    豪キャブラリー: Slab

  • Getting Real

The year pretty much starts for real from tomorrow, having had the new year break, punctuated by a week of work, followed by another long weekend to mark Coming of Age Day. It’s gonna be a hell of a busy year. I’ve got work, which is a delight, providing stimulation, enjoyment, companionship and motivation. And with the need to obtain qualifications for my role, there will also be school should my trial period end and a position be offered. I’ll also be expected to shoulder a bigger load and take on more responsibilities. And that’s on top of a two-hour, one-way commute. Then, I have to assume a role on…
