Melburnian’s Kagawa Kangaroo Business Is Bounding

Melburnian Suliana Tesi Nakamura looks to be doing very nicely operating Kangaroo K.K., an English conversation school and real estate business located in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture, where she has lived since 2011. Aussie Nakamura’s choice of the kangaroo for her company and logo is pretty bloody obvious, and a logical choice for the woman who moved to Japan in 2005 and taught English in Tokyo before moving to her current location. Nakamura worked in real estate Down Under and is using her multicultural background to leverage her multifaceted business now. The appearance of any company, organization, or individual on Kangaeroo.com does not constitute an endorsement, approval, or criticism of that…

  • Cracking Kakegawa Is Shizuoka’s Stunning Secret

Sometimes, delight arises where it’s least expected. And that’s precisely what happened for me over the weekend with a visit to the unexpectedly delightful Shizuoka Prefecture city of Kakegawa. We had the most amazing time in the city, watching birds, visiting traditional and modern attractions, and enjoying fine dining. I’d expected none of this, and found the city to be a hidden gem. Attracting us to the city was Kakegawa Kachoen, a flower and bird park, where we were treated to a magnificent time. We watched bird shows, got to feed and pet the birds, and took thousands of shots. It was simply sublime, and even had a strong Aussie…

Reminiscing: The First Time Australia Mattered in Kangaeroo’s Japan

Kangaeroo has lived in Japan since the late ’80s, just as the Showa Era (reign of Emperor Hirohito from 1926-1989) drew to a close. Japan back then had possibly an even stronger fascination with English than it does even today, especially as it was far less accessible in a slower, less connected world. But English and overseas meant America and Japan had an obsession for the United States. Occasionally, news would filter through from other powers, such as then recently reunited Germany, France, Italy, Britain and the crumbling Soviet Union and Russia. It was rare, pretty close to unheard of, really, for Australia to attract much attention in a Japan…

  • A Seed Of An Idea

As I touched on over the weekend, I’ve started trying to grow plants from seed and I completed the first round of the process this morning before heading off on my bike. Dwarf wattle seeds that I soaked in boiling water last night were the final group of seeds that can be planted in the winter. I managed to spread the seeds over a tray and put them in the humidity pod. Most of the work was finished yesterday after the ride. The process so far started in September and October of last year (2022) when I collected Australian native plant seeds, mostly from Bunnings. Managing to get the seeds…

  • Phantom Kangaroos!

Mystery Kangaroos in Japan Fleeing Kangas Give Japanese Drivers a Roo-ed Shock Marsupial Attacks! Monkeying Around With Shared Kobe Steel(e)s

Of the many commonalities shared by Australia and Japan, perhaps one of the quirkier ones is that both countries are home to a Kobe Steele known for monkeying around. Australia’s Kobe Steele founded the Orangutan Foundation International Australia (OFI Australia), and was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2021 for her services to conservation and the environment. Japan’s Kobe Steel Ltd., meanwhile, monkeyed around in a far less noble way, falsifying inspection and quality data on steel, aluminium and copper products for years, affecting hundreds of customers and resulting in billions of yen in fines after causing one of Japan’s most significant industrial quality scandals in recent…
