A Kangaroo Saves The World!

A kangaroo in a space suit saves the world in the most amazing Chinese movie, which I have just learned about.

King Kong Roo is one of the heroes in Moon Man, the delightfully hilarious 2022 movie about Yue, a guy stranded on the moon with humanity apparently obliterated by an asteroid shower slamming into the planet.

King Kong Roo is a kangaroo that had been left in a moon base research lab. He forms an unlikely friendship with Yue and they strive to return to the earth. The kangaroo ends up a hero, reverred around the world.

The film is an adaptation of South Korean illustrator Cho Seok’s webcomic series, Moon You. The original comic ran from 2017 to 2019.

In the story, Yue thinks he is the sole surviving human, but he is unaware that some survived the asteroid shower and they are watching his every move through automatic livestreaming back to earth, which is unable to re-open communications with the moon.

Moon Man made an incredible $460 million at the box office.

    　今からおよそ40年前西オーストラリア州にある人口86人しかいないユークラという小さな砂漠町が一時的に一世風靡を起こし、世界中に有名になった。 　その理由は、そこでカンガルーと共に暮らす野生児の少女がそこで発見された、という報道があった訳だ。同町が砂漠の中にあるナラボー平野にあるため、マスコミがすぐにその少女を「ナラボー・ニンフ」（ナラボーの美少女）と名づけた。 　「ナラボー・ニンフ」が1971年暮にうわされ始まり、いつの間にか毛を巻きながらカンガルーの群れと一緒にいる少女の写真が現れた。そして、その直後、映りが悪いが同少女の映像が撮られて、いつの間にか世界中に報道され、ＴＩＭＥ紙やＢＢＣなど各国のマスコミ報道陣がユークラにやってきて野生児の「ナラボー・ニンフ」を必至に探すようになった。 　 しかし、記者などが話しの背景を調査しはじまるとちょっとくさくなる。それで、1972年のある日、ユークラ住民一人ロリー・スコット氏が新聞記者に「ナラボー・ニンフ」の話しがユークラの町おこしのための出ち上げだと言った。スコット氏と仲間数人がある日ビールを飲みながら「どうやってユークラをＰＲすればいいのか」を話「ナラボー・ニンフ」の野生児のづくリ話というアイディアを思い浮かんだ。知人女性を写真にポーズしてもらって、偽造映像にはプロのモデルを起用した。砂漠の間中の小さな町であるユークラが世界の注目を浴びた瞬間が終了となった。 　が、「ナラボー・ニンフ」の伝説が未だに人々を魅了する。「発見」以降、舞台、彫刻か本や博士号論文の題材ともなった。そして、2012年3月に「ナラボー・ニンフ」がモキュメンタリー（疑似ドキュメンタリー）の主体となった。そのモキュメンタリーが超Ｂ級映画でありながら学生などの間でかなり評価されているらしい。モキュメンタリーは、「ナラボー・ニンフ」が主体となっているが、実際の「ナラボー・ニンフ」事件と全く関係ない。 ナラボー・ニンフの背景についてラジオ・番組(English) ナラボーニンフに関するニュース・リポート(English) 「ナラボー・ニンフ」モキュメンタリーの公式予告編(English)
