Oh, La La! Kangarou Pizzas, C’est Magnifique! … Plutôt

Kangarou Pizzas are a French fast food chain. The chain appears to be based in Thionville, with outlets in Metz, Nancy and Varangéville. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the chain specializes in deliveries. It’s logo is a bouncing kangaroo, or kangarou in French! Being from the land of culinary delights, you’d expect Kangarou Pizzas to be a popular choice. Perhaps because of its origins, customers are more demanding, but the chain gets only average reviews on Trip Advisor, with 60% rating it as either “poor” or “terrible,” though it appears disgruntled users were more miffed by poor service than lousy food. Still, it’s nice to see kangaroos making their mark in France.

Hollywood heartthrob Johnny Depp is a regular visitor to Japan, and is due to return again later this month, but he hasn’t shown his face so often in Australia. His first visit Down Under was way back in 1988, when he made a whirlwind trip to promote 21 Jump Street, the show he was then appearing in. Depp appeared on the Red Faces segment of Hey, Hey It’s Saturday, then Australia’s most popular program. He appeared on the program with Dannii Minogue, then perhaps better known in Australia than her soon to be globally famous singing older sister, Kylie. The show aired on…

  • Bringing a Western Beat to Japan

For some reason, Japanese artists covering Western songs has also held something of a fascination for me. I’m not really attuned to hit charts, nor really have been. And music isn’t one of my great loves, though I have an appreciation for pretty much any type of tune. Perhaps my liking for the out-of-the-ordinary stems from the Aussie DNA, which seems to have a likeness for the novelty song, with national and international No. 1 hits during my lifetime Down Under including the likes of I’ve Been Everywhere, A Pub with No Beer, A Redback on the Toilet Seat, Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport, Rak Off Normie, The Newcastle Song,…

  • Layabout

A layabout in Strine is someone who avoids work, except when striving hard to avoid doing anything useful. They work hard to avoid work. Layabouts are also referred to as idlers, good-for-nothings, and–most commonly–bludgers.

(Aussie) Black Swans Give (Japanese) Koi Fish a Decent Feed

Black swans are endemic to Australia and symbolic to the country, particularly Western Australia, where the avian beauty is almost synonymous for anything Sandgroper. Koi fish, meanwhile, play a similar role for Japan, immediately evoking an image of the Land of the Rising Sun. This clip could be called a cute view of Australia-Japan friendship.
